Protect Your Dear Kids With An Internet Parental Control Filter
The Internet is part and parcel of all our lives. We use it for our entertainment and our business. But then, so do our kids! And we just cannot stop them. Today's kids are using the Internet much more than we did, and we all know that the Internet is not a safe playground for young impressionable minds. In the reports of a study conducted in 2006 by the US Department of Justice Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, some very disturbing statistics have come to light. There is a marked increase in the number of teenagers and kids who are getting exposed to pornographic material on the Internet. What is more disturbing is the high rate of kids that are being hounded by Internet criminals on their emails, in chat rooms and in online global communities. Certainly, one of the biggest concerns you, as a parent, must have is to screen your kids from exposing themselves so harmfully on the Internet. For this, you will need to use Internet parental control filters.
Keeping kids away from the Internet will not help matters any, especially since they can use the vast educational resources of the Internet for improving their lives. Hence, monitoring or, rather, controlling the usage of the Internet by kids must be the answer. Internal parental control filters do just that. They will help you watch whether your kids are watching pornographic or any other kind of disturbing material over the Internet, or whether they are having harmful email conversations with someone, or if they are giving away vital identifying information about themselves and even you in the chat rooms, or simply if they are spending too much time playing online games.
Internet parental control is a must for kids that are using the Internet. Since parents cannot be physically present all the time with their kids, control filters do the same task. There are two main types of filters that help in exercising Internet parental control on the surf-happy kids:-
1. Internet Browsing Filters - Internet browsing filters will monitor the sites that your kids are visiting. You can define some categories here for which monitoring could be done. There are categories like pornography, violence, crime, drug abuse, gambling, etc. that you can control - about fifty categories in most Internet browsing filters. Once you have set these parameters, the browsing filters will include them in their database, and whenever the kid tries to access sites belonging to one of these categories, two things can happen. One, the child could be warned that the site is unsuitable to them and will be asked to click out. Two, the site could be totally prohibited from loading. Whatever is the case, a log will be maintained by the filter of the attempted access, and you will be able to read it online, or over the log reports maintained by the filter on your PC.
2. Time Management Filters - Time management filters help you to set up limitations on time for your kid's usage of the Internet. You have the option of setting up daily or weekly time restrictions. You can either set the time on the overall usage of the Internet, or you can set different time limits for browsing, chatting, playing online games, etc.
All Internet parental control filters maintain records that you can check when you wish. You can even opt for these records to be delivered to you via email, text messaging or any other method of communication that the filter offers.
